The Best Thing I've Read All Day

"In all fairness, can't one enjoy boobs, guns, robots, and explosions in addition to Anne of Green Gables?"

This was just left by an anonymous visitor after the first episode of Anne. God bless America! This is just the sort of thing you look forward to after a week of being sick with a fever. I thnk I may have this one framed and hung on my wall, next to the Che Guevara poster. Hah!

In all seriousness, I don't mind a little junk food now and then, but when junk food becomes your entire diet, there's going to be trouble. All I want to do is point you towards the vegetable garden, towards some alternatives you may have missed.

Well, it's obvious I missed a lot!

I didn't even noticed someone fansubbed the Anne of Green Gables series either, so it's all new to me just seeing it!

Move the words around a little bit, and you get the whole point of this blog: "In all fairness, can't one enjoy Anne of Green Gables in addition to boobs, guns, robots, and explosions?" I for one certainly do. ^_^

And by the way - this sounds a lot like Sennen Joyu and the like, maybe you'd find it interstering. In fact the same could be said be of most of the Buried Treasure column, so it's worth reading through the archives. The animé of Night on the Galactic Railway could prove to be particularly Ghibli-like.

Interesting that you mention Night on the Galactic Railroad. Have you noticed the Fansub section lately? Hmmm...

Hmmm, I thought "Night on the Glactic Railroad" was still licensed by Central Park Media? :-)

As far as I know, the DVD is currently out of print. I understand there may be stores that would still have one or two copies tucked away in the back, but that's little more than blind luck.

As a rule, I don't make links for movies that are commercially available in North America. But foreign or out-of-print movies are fair game. I'd love to see Night on the Galactic Railroad reissued, especially since there's a newly-remastered Japanese DVD available (sans subtitles).

I'm personally interested in seeing this mainly for noticing that Gisaburo Sugii and Group TAC worked on it. As a 10 year old, I was exposed to that studio's earliest work, "Jack & The Beanstalk", from a Disney Channel airing and loved it (Gisaburo Sugii of course came from Mushi Pro, I'm only glad Hen's Tooth Video bothered to release this on DVD last year, though I decided to keep ahold to my old VHS copy of it anyway). A more recent work of his that also caught my attention thanks to YouTube (and Jerry Beck's constant nagging over wanting to see on his blog) is "Arashi no Yoru ni" ("Stormy Night"). I only wish I could release stuff like this myself.
