Howl's Moving Castle @ Landmark Theaters May 22

Terrific news for Ghibli Freaks here in the US. Landmark Theaters, the nation-wide independent movie theater chain, will be showing Howl's Moving Castle on May 22.

According to their latest flier (pdf here), Howl will be shown in Japanese with English subtitles.

Here in Minneapolis, Landmark owns the Lagoon and Uptown Theaters, and those are the go-to places for independent, foreign, and documentary films. For anyone who isn't a teenage boy, these theaters are essential. They're the only place I can go anymore to see real movies. You remember those, right? Real movies? With stories, and actors?

Anyway, the Uptown has midnight movies every Saturday night, and it's nearly always a blast. Monty Python and the Holy Grail; Spinal Tap; The Big Lebowski; Bullit; Enter the Dragon; Star Trek 2: Wrath of Khan; Clue....and on and on and on.

If there's a Landmark Theater where you live, be sure to check on the time. They might show Howl at a different time. But for now, we'll just assume that everyone will be watching Howl on May 22. And we're going to see the Japanese version! Seriously, how cool is that?

As always, make sure to pack the theaters. We want to see more Ghibli screenings at the midnight shows.

According to their website, it looks like this showing is restricted to the one theatre in LA. Too bad, I'd have loved to see this in the theatre.

I did see that, but since Landmark has the Lagoon and Uptown here in Minneapolis, I know that they are rotating the same midnight movies over here. They may not be playing the same nights - 200 Motels is playing here this Saturday, I believe - but they should be rotating through.

I'll remember to keep my eyes open and see if anything develops.
