Isao Takahata Will Attend the Oscars
Isao Takahata will be attending the 87th Academy Awards on February 22. Yoshiaki Nishimura, the producer for The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, will also be in attendance. This will mark the first time a Japanese director nominated for Best Animated Feature will be present (Hayao Miyazaki stayed home in 2003, the year Spirited Away won the Oscar, to protest the Iraq War).
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya won the Animation Film Award at Japan's 68th Mainichi Film Awards. It was also awarded Best Animated Film by the 8th Asia Pacific Screen Awards, the Boston Film Critics Society and the LA Film Critics Awards, and was nominated for three Annie Awards.
Here on Ghibli Blog, I have made the case why Princess Kaguya will win the Oscar.

I am glad and I personally hope now he gets it more than ever. He really deserves it, for real.. it'd be a shame if he attended it to not get it!
