Studio Ghibli's Next Blu-Ray - It's Whisper of the Heart July 20

Studio Ghibli has announced their next feature film to arrive on Blu-Ray disc - Yoshifumi Kondo's 1995 Mimi wo Sumaseba, aka Whisper of the Heart.  This film will be released on July 20, along with The Borrower Arrietty.  All the usual features we've come to expect will be present, including storyboards, trailers, English subtitles (of course!), and multiple language soundtracks, including Japanese, English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Mimi is one of my favorite Ghibli movies.  I'm really looking forward to seeing this in high definition, and I'm also thrilled that we're getting two new Blu-Rays this summer.  You can see Ghibli's planning in that their upcoming feature, Kokuriko-Zaka Kara, is also a teen romance by a young director with a promising future.  Mimi was a big success in Japan, and let's hope that success continues once again.

The Whisper BD will retail for 7,140 Yen in Japan.  Expect it to arrive around the world either this Christmas or early next year.

(Thanks to AV Watch for the news)

All the Ghibli Blu-Rays in Japan have English soundtracks. No need to worry there. It's just not available on the Arrietty disc because it's coming to the States next year.

But English subtitles are still confirmed for Arrietty, right?

By the way, there you go guys, Amazon takes preorders for mimi wo sumaseba at 5284 Yen:

Oops! The Japan BD for Laputa does indeed have the English soundtrack. It's a separate extra feature track with embedded Japanese subtitles.

Favourite Ghibli film ever. Bought. :D

(All the Japanese Ghibli Blu-rays have their English dubs on the disc, but they're listed in the extras menu, not the languages. The opening credits are in English too, so it changes the video as well as the audio.)

@eishagishi: I was just going to point that out. The Disney dub with revamped soundtrack has its own option on the menu. Thanks for pointing that out, as I've been busy this afternoon with the lawyers (visa stuff).

Once again, all of the Studio Ghibli feature film DVDs and Blu-Rays include English subtitles, and an English dub wherever possible. The only exceptions on BD are Ponyo and Arrietty. But Ponyo's available here now, and Arrietty is coming next year.

One of my all-time favourites coming on BD?! Wonderful news! Ah, and the cover with the classic silhouette... This calls for a re-order.

Nice to see another Ghibli film coming to blu-ray. I have all the Japanese releases so far but it shore would be nice to see spirited away and Howl's moving castle as well

I understand why the Arrietty Blu-Ray will not have an English dub on it. But just to clarify: It will have English subtitles, right?

Don't care too much for this one, so I won't be importing it. Glad to see another one coming, though.

For Ettore, yes the Japan Arrietty BD will have English subtitles.

That's awesome news!! While not as fantasy based as the other well known Ghibli films it's certainly one their most gorgeously drawn and one of my very favorites.

Happy to hear this...but it's gonna cost me so much money buying all these from Amazon.jp:P
