Grave of the Fireflies on TCM 11/12

Turner Classic Movies will be showing Takahata's Grave of the Fireflies this November 12 at 10:00 est. This will be the English-language version. Be sure to tune in, tell all your friends, and send an email of thanks to Turner Classics.

While I'd clearly prefer to see this movie subtitled and in its original language, my first viewing of Fireflies was on VHS, which was a dub. It's was okay (I bawled often enough), even if not as good as the Japanese actors; Setsuko was played by a five-year-old in the original cast, and is clearly better than an adult actress (in the US dub) trying to sound like one of the Campbell Soup Kids.

Anyway, be sure to tune in, turn on, and drop...how does that go?

It's just a short clip from Sero Hiki No Goshu. I had to use Windows Movie editor which kept shutting down so I was only allowed to put that little minute of the movie, although that was probably my favorite minute in the movie.

If you know anything about using Windows Movie Maker and why it might be shutting down when I put very many clips on it, I'd be able to try and put the entire movie on youtube.

I'm afraid I've never used Windows Movie Maker. Sounds like a Microsoft product - insert snarky wisecracks here. I really should devote a post to all the various programs I use for archiving my DVDs and uploading them to the internet and clogging up the tubes.

The clip is actually from the torrent I downloaded. I'd love to import the movie from Japan but I'm not exactly sure about region-free DVD players and where I can get them/for how much. If I could figure out how to seperate the torrent into clips, however, I'd be sure to put it into youtube so others could view it easier (It took me about 4 hours to figure out how to download and watch foreign torrents). The crappy movie maker just shuts down if I put too many clips in the storyboard area.
