Ghibli Movies at YouTube

I've noticed that some brave soul has uploaded a number of Miyazaki and Ghibli movies to YouTube. Currently available are the following: Castle of Cagliostro, Nausicaa, Totoro, Umi ga Kikoeru/Ocean Waves, and Mimi wo Sumaseba/Whisper of the Heart. For obvious reasons, I'd expect these to be pulled from the site before too long, but I'm still mulling whether or not I should link to them in future posts. All of these films, except Umi, are available Stateside on DVD. Let me know if you have any preference (cough, desperate ploy for comments, cough).

Short answer:
I'd like to hear about the available clips. I won't watch a whole movies online (for moral and aesthetic reasons), but I would like to see clips from non-US releases that are new to me.

Long answer:
As a US fan of Ghibli, I really like hear about (and previewing) pre-Ghibli animation that I hadn't heard of before (Horus, 3000 Leagues, etc). I usually rent US releases before I decide to buy them (my unlimited animation purchasing budget seems to have dried up in recent years), and at this point I'm not die-hard enough or tech-savvy enough to import the non-R1 DVDs, so I'm torn between wanting to see some of these movies and not wanting to promote copyright violation.

So, I guess I'd like to hear about them, watch on YouTube clip and hopefully that will satisfy me, or get me interested enough to actually purchase it.

Thanks for pointing about the existence of Puss-in-Boots and Animal Treasure Island. I put them in my Netflix queue, and look forward to seeing them! I'm also boing back through your previous posts and hopefully I will find some other gems.

Also, I'd like to see a primer of DVD importing. I'm interesting in seeing non-US DVDs, but not entirely sure what's involved or what you would recommend.

Regions?
Region switching on DVD-ROM drive?
NTSC vs PAL?
Publishers to trust or avoid?
Retailers to trust or avoid?
Shipping?
etc...

If you seen this info compiled anywhere else a pointer might be sufficient.
Thanks!

Not a bad idea. I think I'll do just that. I also think I'll be adding links to fansubs of the pre-Ghibli works like Lupin III, Conan, and Anne.

I can't write comments long and interesting enough to do justice to your posts.

I would like to know, is it so amoral to watch these films in internet? I think, normal people would first watch the low quality online version, and only then, after they learned that they're liking the film, they will run in the shop and buy dvd/blu-ray. So my opinion is that these clips are promoting Studio Ghibli, not more.

P.S.: I'm not protecting the guys who upload the videos, and I'm not one of them. I'm one of the people who link these clips in their blogs to promote Miyazaki. Why? Because only very small amount of readers in internet knows who Miyazaki is, or, what Mononoke Hime is. And a half of them would love these if would know.

P.S. number 2:
I think the comment is long enough. :)
