It dates back to the 1980s, back when the convention wisdom was that "Japanimation" needed to be significantly altered for Western markets. Warriors of the Wind, anyone?<br /><br />Ugh, what a lousy generic title. I'm not even a fan of the direct translated title, "Chie the Brat." It sounds too much like "Dennis the Menace," and I'm not a fan of "A the B" titles.<br /><br />"Jarinko Chie" is perfectly fine, thank you very much. The title refers to how Chie's meathead father shouts at her. "Her, brat, get over here!" That sort of thing. It doesn't describe her character, like Dennis or Bart Simpson (to cite examples). For any US release, I would have to insist on the actual Japanese title, and not any Westernized or Disneyfied alterations.Daniel Thomas MacInneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01406180871529775448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24969765.post-38560515854089800502015-04-22T23:48:51.765-05:002015-04-22T23:48:51.765-05:00Did you know that TMS has given Chie the Brat a ne...Did you know that TMS has given Chie the Brat a new English title. Now I understand what you said about it being the most emotionally involving and with the most interesting locations (even though I'm still going to watch Anne and cried a lot with Heidi, especially because of the emotional link I've created with Clara). The scenery work in this series is completely stunning.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17648296210165210961noreply@blogger.com
