Valentines Day 1999 (1999)
Acrylic and Gold Spray Paint on Canvas
Part of my acrylic paintings made in 1999. In previous years, I mostly worked with paper, coming up from the fanzine world. When I moved up to canvas paintings, I went crazy with the acrylic paints. I was a devoted student of the abstract artists of the early 20th Century, especially Jackson Pollack. This piece evokes the images of sunspots, and a skewered Valentines heart...sorta. Expressionist art is more about the feeling and mood than literal intent, I believe. I always saw it as the visual side to music, which was my other major influence.
