Sayonara no Natsu

T. Ishikawa, brilliant and essential as always, sent along this Youtube video of the song Sayonara no Natsu, which is the theme song to Studio Ghibli's upcoming Kokuriko-Zaka Kara.  This song was originally written in 1976, and this recording is sung by Ryoko Moriyama.

This is not the 2011 version sung by Aoi Teshima, but an older recording.  Studio Ghibli's rendition will be released on June 1, and the soundtrack CD on July 1.  The song is already available for mobile phones.

Beautiful song. Seems like it'll really fit the mood Kokuriko seems to be going for. Can't wait to hear Teshima Aoi's version!

I think it's curious how Japanese film and old-fashioned pop music tastes often seem to mirror those of southern europe. You could just as well expect this atmosphere in an Italian song and it would sound "very Italian" too.
Or maybe that's just me.

This is a good cover of the new song. Unlike the old version this one has three verses.
And here are the new lyrics. I hope they're good. :D
